Our Story
Timber With a History
Posts like these were cut from New Zealand’s native forests and used for generations across rural New Zealand. Many became part of farms established by returned servicemen after the First World War. Practical pieces of timber that quietly became part of our rural history.
From Fence Post to Tōtara Legend
Each reclaimed post is carefully selected, cut and handcrafted into an individually numbered magnetic knife holder. A functional piece of New Zealand history made for a new generation.
The transformation goes beyond appearance. The tōtara is carefully prepared and refined by hand, including a process that compresses and hardens the timber surface. It is then protected with a hard-wearing natural finish, preserving the look and feel of the timber for everyday use.
Strong by Design
Hidden beneath the tōtara is a continuous 420 mm magnetic system, selected for strong, reliable holding power across the length of the holder. The magnets remain completely concealed, allowing the timber — not the hardware — to take centre stage.
Simple to Install
Tōtara Legend includes a purpose-made installation kit with two tōtara set-out pencils, brass mounting screws and a drill bit to help position and mount the holder accurately.
Made With Less Waste
Giving old tōtara a new life is only part of the story. Wherever practical, we choose materials and processes that reduce waste. From reclaimed timber and natural wood finishes to simple, recyclable packaging. We believe thoughtful craftsmanship should respect the material, use resources carefully and minimise what is left behind.
The Story Continues
With every numbered piece, another part of this remarkable timber begins a new chapter. Made to be used, appreciated and passed on.
